Ciara & Seth

Ciara & Seth married on August 27 of this year.  I started off early creating some cool images of the groom and his groomsmen on the street he and a few of them grew up on.  The ceremony was at Eastridge Presbyterian.  This day was full of surprises!  The bride and groom had their dog walk down the aisle with the rings.  I know you’re thinking this happens a lot.  And, yes, it does but this dog did it perfectly.  After being pronounced married, the couple had a band pop up in the audience to play “All you need is love” like in the movie Love Actually.  One of the best surprises Ciara could give her husband was to walk on the field at Memorial Stadium.  Once we got the emotions in check, the reception was just around the corner at the Johnny Carson Theatre.  The wedding in itself had a Hollywood theme.  Much thanks to Conrad at the Stem Gallery for the beautiful displays.  013 029 036 058 065 076 080 086 110 111 120 128 137 139 150 153 172 173 174 184 193 220 232 242 248 299 313 329 354 360 384 385 390

Gretchen & Jeff

Back in November, we had the pleasure of being a part of Jeff and Gretchen’s big day. We found ourselves Omaha where they had an amazing urban set up. Since these two are such a cool couple, we wanted to learn a little bit more about them.

Jeff and Gretchen have an amazing engagement story. They were on vacation with Jeff’s family in Oahu, so you can imagine the scenery was breathtaking. “I suspected a proposal might happen, but on the last day of the week-long trip, I figured I must have been wrong,” Gretchen told us. After dinner that night, they decided to take a walk on the beach with Jeff’s brother and sister-in-law. “They trailed behind us a bit,” she explained, “and much to my surprise, Jeff got down on one knee with a ring in hand.” Jeff’s brother got some killer photos of the engagement. We can’t imagine a more perfect place for a proposal like that.

On their wedding day, Jeff and Gretchen got married at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Omaha. Gretchen and her mom had been members of the parish for years, and the church’s relaxed feel was everything they were looking for. For their reception, they chose Omar Arts & Events. They told us a little more about this choice for them. “We felt like the building had a lot of history and character. It was going to be something different and new for a lot of our friends and family.” The lack of in-house catering allowed them to choose one of their favorite local restaurants, Sgt. Peffers, as the caterer. Size was another thing they kept in mind while choosing a venue, and Omar Arts & Events was perfect for accommodating their large families and guest list.

As for the theme itself, Jeff and Gretchen were going for an urban glamour art deco feel. I enjoyed going to the Benson Business District to photograph. Our first stop was the 1912 bar and then off to Beercade for some gaming What was more important to them, though, was finding ways they could help their guess share in the happiness they felt on their wedding day. “Any decisions we made were based more and more on how we could make sure that the day felt truly joyous for everyone that could share it with us,” Gretchen told us.

The wedding was beautiful, and we wish Jeff and Gretchen a long and happy marriage. Congrats!

Cari & Aaron

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure to photograph Cari and Aaron’s wedding in McCook Nebraska. These two made the day a lot of fun for us, and we produced some amazing shots.

Cari and Aaron decided to hold their wedding at E Free Church in McCook. The reception was at Cambridge Community that meant a lot to the both of them. Keeping it really close to home and personal was really important to the two of them. Their Country/Vintage feel fit perfectly along with their personal touches in the wedding! Cari said most important part of the day was for them, “When we exchanged our vows and when we were taking pictures (just the two of us). Something was very special about that, being in the arms of my love!”

We decide on some great places to do some creative images. First was Koch Farms and while driving on the highway to the reception we stopped on the side of the road and found a little nook of countryside that fit the wedding day. Downtown Bartley Nebraska has some old buildings that made a perfect backdrop also.

Congrats and I wish you nothing but happiness in the future!

Morgan & Don

Morgan and Don got married at Hillcrest Country Club a couple weeks ago.  I love photographing outdoor weddings and this one was especially fun. The connection between this couple is indescribable.  I rarely had to tell Morgan and Don to “kiss for the camera” as they were constantly kissing and smiling at each other. The flower girls and ring bearers, as well, were so vibrant and full of joy

Chez Hay Tasting and Photo Shoot

Collaborative Wedding Tasting and Photo Shoot

This week we had a bunch of fun collaborating with some local businesses for a very successful Chez Hay Tasting event.  The space was decorated just like a wedding reception with flowers and table arrangements from Blooms and Bouquets, menus and invitations from A to Z Printing, music from Craig Estudillo, and setup and food provided by Chez Hay Catering.  Before the guest started to arrive, we were able to have a photo shoot with Drew and Molly as our models. This was an awesome shoot with some collaboration as Blush Bridal provided the dress and Emsud’s Clothier brought the suit. Drew and Molly were fun to photograph as they were willing to try new shots and cooperate to get some different images.

We want to thank the following people for not only assisting with the shoot but also for willingness to relax and have a good time with us.

Shawn, Dana, and Nicole from Chez Hay Catering
Melissa from Blooms and Bouquets
Emmy and Emily from Blush Bridal
Chelsea from A to Z Printing
Drew and Molly for modeling

Alison (hair) and Cat (makeup) at Salon K

We had a blast seeing the creativity of the other business and getting to taste the wonderful food from Chez Hay.  Check out the images and a short description of the location by Chez Hay.

Jim & Stacy

Jim and Stacy first cross paths back in 2005 when they were both employees at Tanworld. During their time as co-workers, they became friends and after a couple years began dating. Stacy was even Jim’s boss at one point.
Fast forward six years when Jim finally asked for Stacy’s hand in marriage. On August 1, 2013, Stacy was sent out to get Jim since his car broke down.  Little did she know that this was his plan to propose. He got down on one knee in the middle of a dirt road in the pouring rain. The very romantic and unforgettable moment was a surprise to Stacy and she agreed to take the next step in their relationship.
After almost seven years of being together, the couple said their vows on May 10, 2014. The ceremony was at St. John’s Catholic Church and the reception followed at the beautiful grand hall at the train station in the Haymarket. The couple spent much of their time in the Haymarket so the location was special. They enjoyed their day with family and their favorite moment was giving themselves to one another through their vows. Jim and Stacy had a day of fun and laughter with those closest to them.  Here are my top five from the wedding.

After the wedding the newlyweds spent time in Playa del Carmen, Mexico for their honeymoon.  They look forward to the chapters ahead of them in life and they are excited to start a family. Enjoy this quick slideshow of the wedding day story.

Wedding Hair

Getting back to our Tuesday Tips, we have a guest article from Holly, the owner of Atlantis Salon and Spa. The following is great information on wedding day hair and makeup to help the brides and her attendants get the perfect look! Let’s see what advice Holly has offered us!–

Whenever I see my bride for her hair and makeup consultation, I always like to know the feel of the wedding. Is it formal and classic, outdoors and playful, casual and laid back? The bride is  looked at the most on the wedding day, the cherry on top. It is important the full look is taken  into consideration. Does the hair flow with the gown? Is the makeup appropriate for the whole look and the theme of the day? How does my hair and makeup look from all angles? Does it compliment the bride’s face shape and profile? Does it feel comfortable?

As a stylist and makeup artist, it is great when the bride has suggested photos of hair and makeup. With the perfect consultation, together we can create the beautiful look the bride was imagining. Helping the bride and her party to look their best and assisting in the enjoyment of their day is so special to me. Traveling to the destination is my favorite way to focus and de-stress for the day. I’ll pack up all my supplies and come to the location the bride desires. Hanging out with the bridal party and eating breakfast together while being pampered is always a great way to start the wedding day.

Atlantis Salon and Spa has everything a bride will need to treat herself from beautiful skin with our extensive array of facials to relaxing in the spa with a massage, preparing your hair with sparkling color and cuts, dazzling up you fingers and toes with a manicure and pedicure. Don’t forget the extra wink with a fan of eyelash extensions! Congratulations on your wedding! May your day be full of joy and happiness!

–Thank you Holly for some awesome advice!

Ryan and Stacey

When Stacey was given the last Christmas gift by Ryan’s niece Emersyn, she opened the husker lady bug music box that contained a diamond ring and a note with the question, “Stacey will you marry my uncle Ryan?”.  After she said “yes,” they looked forward to their April wedding.

Ryan and Stacey exchanged their vows on April 26 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lincoln. They loved the church for its old cathedral style and downtown location. The couple’s reception was held at the Grand Manse which portrayed the elegant feel they wanted for their big day.

The story of Stacey and Ryan goes back to when they first met at a Husker football tailgate party (the Husker music box relates to the first time they met). Their first date was in Omaha where they went bowling.

The happy couple’s favorite parts of their wedding day include saying their vows and becoming one, spending the day with family and friends, and, obviously, the celebration!

The images from the day captured not only the love the couple felt for one another, but also the elegant and communal theme for the day. I could tell the couple, surrounded by family and friends, could not be more joyful. Enjoy the images!

The Blushing Bride

We recently teamed up with Blush Bridal for a fun and creative shoot.  We wanted to do something different and a little more non-traditional.  For the first set of pictures we went for more of a natural, open country feel and the second set of pictures we went for more of an urban feel.

I really love how the images turned out and I think with both the style of the dresses and the accessories really played into the look we were trying to achieve.

Overall, the shoot was awesome.  We had a great day and some wonderful lighting that allowed us to capture more dramatic and emotional images.  Sometimes it is nice to do something a little more out-of-the-box and creative and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I want to thank Blush Bridal for collaborating on this shoot.

Many people helped with this shoot.  Jenna Mosier from Eve A was the hair stylist, Lindsey from Elle Esthetics designed the make-up, and Princess Lasertron and Ibloom provided the beautiful bouquets.  The hair pieces are from Ruby and Cordelia, J Picone (two pieces), and Meg Jewerly. JLM Blush produced the lace dress and the tea length dress is made by Justin Alexander.

Check out Blush Bridal’s blog.  They comment on these images as well!
