fall creative shoot

Over the past year or so,  I’ve been talking to Melissa at Blooms & Bouquets about doing a creative shoot closer to Halloween.  Blooms & Bouquets not only does great floral arrangements, but their displays are at another level altogether.  I went into the shoot with a vision of how to light the subject and the composition, but quickly changed my mind set, which I’m completely okay with.  The images we created had a different mood and look from other creative shoots in the past.  When initially planning the shoot, I remember talking with Dani and Melissa at Blooms & Bouquets and a non wedding shoot kept coming up.  The only thing remotely resembling a wedding shoot was the flowers, our wonderful model Claire, used as a prop.   antler floral hybrid pieces could be the  trend for next year lol..  I might be the one behind the camera, but there were so many people that contributed. Claire’s hair & makeup was done by Alicia’s Makeup Artistry.   Ellyne Bridal provided the dress, and Blooms & Bouquets provided the floral arrangements and display piece.  One last person to mention is Jeremy Allen Wieczorek a good photography friend who also collaborated and photographed.

Ciara & Seth

Ciara & Seth married on August 27 of this year.  I started off early creating some cool images of the groom and his groomsmen on the street he and a few of them grew up on.  The ceremony was at Eastridge Presbyterian.  This day was full of surprises!  The bride and groom had their dog walk down the aisle with the rings.  I know you’re thinking this happens a lot.  And, yes, it does but this dog did it perfectly.  After being pronounced married, the couple had a band pop up in the audience to play “All you need is love” like in the movie Love Actually.  One of the best surprises Ciara could give her husband was to walk on the field at Memorial Stadium.  Once we got the emotions in check, the reception was just around the corner at the Johnny Carson Theatre.  The wedding in itself had a Hollywood theme.  Much thanks to Conrad at the Stem Gallery for the beautiful displays.  013 029 036 058 065 076 080 086 110 111 120 128 137 139 150 153 172 173 174 184 193 220 232 242 248 299 313 329 354 360 384 385 390

Tiffany & Trey

In mid June, we had the pleasure of capturing Trey and Tiffany’s big day! Along with the images, we wanted to show off how amazing this couple is, and share their story. Although they didn’t date in high school, the two met in English class for the first time in Seward, Nebraska. It wasn’t until 2013 when they had their first date in downtown Lincoln.

Tiffany gave us a little information about their journey towards marriage. She told us of the struggle they experienced living apart. “Once we were dating, we were never able to live in the same town,” she told us, “but in the long run, it was more than worth it, and we wouldn’t change anything about it.”

I started the day off  at the Hilton Garden downtown, where I started photographing the details, the first look with her father and some creative images with her bridesmaids.  Tiffany’s dress  was amazing from Blush Bridal.

Trey and Tiffany were married at Southwood Lutheran Church.  This was an amazing church to photograph there are so many creative backdrops.  The lighting was perfect both inside and out.

Her bouquet was a perfect embodiment of early summer with the light pastel color palette. The dominant colors of the bouquets echo this year’s Pantone’s color of Serenity (light blue) with paired with a summery peach. The bridesmaids’ bouquets are smaller version of the bridal bouquet and include peach stock and garden roses as well as blue delphinium and cream roses. The green plumosa compliments the floral to give a fresh garden feel.

Trey and Tiffany decided to host their wedding reception at the Chez Hay in downtown Lincoln. “We really enjoyed the location of the venue,” she explained, “we were able to see a lot of downtown from the windows and were able to accommodate all of our guests.” Their beautiful decorations matched perfectly with the brick interior, and made for a special scene once the sun went down. “We didn’t have a specific theme except for an upbeat, fun wedding,” Trey told us. “We just wanted to have fun and keep the dance floor full of people.” Tiffany and Trey also credited the food, bartenders, and staff of the Chez Hay for making their day extra special.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day to be a part of. We had a ton of fun getting to know Tiffany and Trey, and we wish them nothing but the best in the future. Congrats, Mr. and Mrs. Farmer!

Creative shoot Moonrise Kingdom Theme

A  couple weeks ago we found ourselves in the beautiful Chez Hay Catering and Event Space in downtown Lincoln.  We partnered with Blooms and Bouquets for the decorations and floral, while Blush Bridals provided the attire for this creative shoot.  The theme was built off of the hit movie, Moonrise Kingdom, and the décor spoke for itself.  Elegant greenery and vintage-style furniture made this set-up stand out from the traditional wedding reception setting.  The gorgeous dress and complementary headband was a perfect fit for the bohemian style we were going for. Natural lighting in the event space set everything up for success, and we were really happy with our results!

Emmy, from Blush Bridal, had a lot to say about the styling she did for the shoot.  “A boho bridal look is THE trend for Bridal this year,” she stated.  “The Ginger gown:  Blush by Hayley Paige embodies the boho feel with it’s flowy chiffon skirt and illusion lace appliques throughout the bodice.” She chose a Casablanca sash as a headpiece to bring a little sparkle but also bring attention to the model’s gorgeous hair!  “Romantic, soft, relaxed and fun best suits this trendy look.”

Blooms and Bouquets Event Productions owner, Melissa, shared the inspiration behind this shoot with us.  “Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of the search for two young lovers who have run away into the wilderness,” she explained.  “The head table was made to feel like a picnic in a natural shelter and the lounge embodied the bohemian spirit that is movies portray.”  The model for the shoot, Dani, is also part of the Blooms and Bouquets team! She was the one who conceptualized the shoot, so it was fitting that she was featured in the beautiful setting.

Chez Hay, in downtown Lincoln, created the perfect atmosphere for this creative shoot.  Event Director, Halie, welcomes wedding couples to, “Discover the new vibe coming from within [their] vintage walls.” Chez Hay will help you create something extraordinary for your special day.  I couldn’t think of a better location to capture the essence of Moonrise Kingdom.

As for us, we had a ton of fun doing this shoot. It’s always a blast to collaborate with other wedding vendors and create something amazing. We got to use our Lomography Petzval lens, which added a lot to the unique style of the shoot. We can’t wait to do more creative shoots like this one, and look forward to doing just that!

Jaylynn & Tayler

In August, we had the pleasure of shooting Jaylynn and Tayler’s special day. The two met in college while living in the same dorm building. Jaylynn claims Tayler was always up really late playing RockBand with his roommate, and making all sorts of other noise. The relationship blossomed into a beautiful marriage! Their journey started when Tayler took Jaylynn to Misty’s on her birthday, and popping the question right after, with their dogs present of course.

Jaylynn is in the wedding business, so when planning started, she knew exactly what was in store for their big day. They chose the DelRay Ballroom, in downtown Lincoln, as their venue. Jaylynn told us a little bit about why they came to that conclusion. “What we loved about the DelRaywas the exposed brick and mirrors…(they) do the set up and tear down so we didn’t have to do much work”. Their Hollywood Glam theme was perfect for the space, and for us to get some amazing shots. “Everyone loved the idea of having each table be a movie and have the movie’s theme song release the table,” Jaylynn added.

They had a beautiful ceremony, reception venue, dress, and photos, the couple still said that sharing their vows was the best part of their day. “I was just happy to be marrying my best friend.” Congratulations, Jaylynn and Tayler!

Artistic shoot

I love it when I have a chance to do an artistic shoot during the cold winter season and recently I was able to do so with a team of local wedding vendors. Chez Hay provided the dream location with exposed brick walls, wooden dance floor, tall ceilings, and a striking city view at night. The ambiance was just right. Matthew was my groom for the day and Emsuds Clothiers provided his slacks, suspenders, and tie (a very hot trend, by the way!).  Cameron was fitted byBlush Bridal in a Rowan Blush dress by Hayley Paige.  Untamed Petals and Meg Jewelry completed the bride’s flawless look with their accessories.  I couldn’t thank Emily from Blush Bridal enough for making sure the dress was fitting perfectly. Blooms & Bouquets  made some amazing displays that provided beautiful backgrounds.   Not only did we use some great window light, the vintage light bulbs were a great prop. During a creative shoot I always try to mix up the lighting to create a different feel with each set.  IMG_0627IMG_0670 copyIMG_0854 IMG_0852

Chez Hay Tasting and Photo Shoot

Collaborative Wedding Tasting and Photo Shoot

This week we had a bunch of fun collaborating with some local businesses for a very successful Chez Hay Tasting event.  The space was decorated just like a wedding reception with flowers and table arrangements from Blooms and Bouquets, menus and invitations from A to Z Printing, music from Craig Estudillo, and setup and food provided by Chez Hay Catering.  Before the guest started to arrive, we were able to have a photo shoot with Drew and Molly as our models. This was an awesome shoot with some collaboration as Blush Bridal provided the dress and Emsud’s Clothier brought the suit. Drew and Molly were fun to photograph as they were willing to try new shots and cooperate to get some different images.

We want to thank the following people for not only assisting with the shoot but also for willingness to relax and have a good time with us.

Shawn, Dana, and Nicole from Chez Hay Catering
Melissa from Blooms and Bouquets
Emmy and Emily from Blush Bridal
Chelsea from A to Z Printing
Drew and Molly for modeling

Alison (hair) and Cat (makeup) at Salon K

We had a blast seeing the creativity of the other business and getting to taste the wonderful food from Chez Hay.  Check out the images and a short description of the location by Chez Hay.
